Hosokawa Tadaoki ((細川忠興, c. 1563 - 1646) was a Japanese daimyō and samurai of the Hosokawa clan. He was the son of Hosokawa Fujitaka, the husband of Hosokawa Tama and served under Oda Nobunaga during the late Sengoku period.
Biography[edit | edit source]
Born in 28 November 1563, Hosokawa Tadaoki was the son of Hosokawa Fujitaka and Numata Jakō.[1] By the age of 15, he was married to Akechi Tama, daughter of Akechi Mitsuhide, at Shōryūji, where they spent their honeymoon for the next four years. However, they left the castle once Fujitaka was granted Miyazu Castle.[2]
When Oda Nobunaga was betrayed and died during the Honnō-ji incident, Tadaoki refused the company of his wife due to Mitsuhide's cultivation of the attack. However, upon Toyotomi Hideyoshi's insistence, he was forced to take back his wife as Hideyoshi showed that she knew nothing of the attack.[3] After Mitsuhide's death, he continued to remain loyal to Hideyoshi.[4]
