Yagoro was a Japanese shinobi during the late Sengoku period. A native to Ikuno, Yagoro later became an associate to the Kakushiba ikki members Fujibayashi Naoe and Yasuke and soon joined their league, aiding with his quick assassination skills.

Biography

Early life

Born in Ikuno, Yagoro sold himself as a servant to the Akechi lords to support his mother. However, it was never enough and to make matters worse, his mother passed away. Now an orphan, Yagoro was alone until the people of Ikuno took him in and became his new family. However, the cruelty of the Akechi clan was a never-ending ordeal, until an Assassin named Fubuki fought against the Akechi suppressors. Yagoro was saved by her on one occassion and thus inspired to fight against the Akechi warriors. However, one day, he watched as Fubuki was worn down by Akechi soldiers before being slain by their leader Akechi Mitsuhisa.[1] In honor of Fubuki, he constructed his own version of the Hidden Blade.[2]

Joining the Kakushiba ikki

In 1582, having trained himself as a shinobi, Yagoro ventured to Harima after hearing of a local samurai abusing his authority over the locals. Chasing and hunting down his soldiers, Yagoro's actions caught the attention of the Kakushiba ikki members Fujibayashi Naoe and Yasuke. After they tracked down the trail of blood, they caught sight of him killing a samurai and chased after him. Stopping him at Maniden Hall, they questioned him about his motives but rejected the implications of him being allied with his victims. Challenging them, Yagoro faced them in a duel but was bested.[2]

Yagoro offered his life for the taking but they asked more about the blade. Yagoro told them that he would reveal more if they take down the head samurai at Jyujiin Courtyard. Agreeing to help, they infiltrated the courtyard and killed the samurai. Yagoro arrived and saw Naoe with her own hidden blade and knew she was of the same group as Fubuki. Yagoro and the pair discussed his mission in honor of Fubuki, which led to Naoe and Yasuke offering them a place in their league. Yagoro accepted and left with a new conviction.[2]

Arriving back in his hometown Ikuno, Yagoro met with Naoe, who visited the town. Together, Yagoro recalled to Noae about his upbringing and his memory of Fubuki, including her downfall to Akechi Mitsuhisa. With this newfound feeling, he admitted that he intended to hunt down Mitsuhisa at Fukuchiyama Castle, to which Naoe offered to join. Traveling to Fukuchiyama, they infiltrated the castle and confronted Mitsuhisa. Fighting Mitsuhisa and his men, they defeated them in combat and brought the Akechi samurai to his knees. When Yagoro confronted him over his misdeeds, Mitsuhisa remembered him as the young orphan who cried after he killed Fubuki and what a poor choice of protection he was to his people. Hearing enough, Yagoro struck Mitsuhisa down with his blade. Thanking Naoe for her help, he headed back to Ikuno.[1]

Finding a new purpose

Yagoro headed back home as Naoe arrived to talk with him about his next steps. While there, Yagoro escorted her and had her meet with the locals who raised him. During their walk, they were interrupted by a young boy Tarubo, who stated his friend Haru ventured into the mines to find lost treasure. Knowing the silver mines were overrun with bandits, Yagoro and Naoe infiltrated the mines' grounds to find Haru. Atop a hill, they found Haru hiding within a hut. Haru thanked them for the rescue and explained that she sought the "treasure from the shadows" to use against the bandits. Yagoro explained that she does not need to fight and that she can help in other ways. Escorting Haru out of the mines, Yagoro saved Haru but also pondered about the treasure itself.[3]

With this treasure on his mind, Yagoro investigated and his findings led him to the Chasuriyama Kofun, which held a secret Assassin outpost. There, he was met by Naoe, who offered to enter first. Yagoro traversed through the kofun and came across a box with an authentic Hidden Blade. When Naoe joined him, Yagoro insisted that Naoe hold an impromptu ceremony to formally induct him into the Kakushiba ikki. After the ceremony, she offered him the Hidden Blade, but Yagoro decided to keep his own blade and bring the other one back to the league's hideout.[4]
