Shishimaru (died 1582), also known as The Swordsman, was a Japanese samurai who served in former Bessho clan Commander Genzaburo's unit.
Biography[edit | edit source]
In 1582, having learned of Bessho Harumasa's downfall and Koshiro's involvement in it,[1] Genzaburo sent Shishimaru and his fellow officers to kill Koshiro at the Kyokaiji Temple. However, the group failed to eliminate him and split off to await their next orders. This attack did not go unnoticed, as the Kakushiba ikki member Fujibayashi Naoe later met with Koshiro and vowed to deal with his assailants.[2]
Shishimaru found himself on the bridge near Nagusano Falls, but his bloodlust soon led him to kill peasants who were not loyal to the Bessho clan and then challenge and rob any wanderers. Learning of his actions, Genzaburo sent a threat for Shishimaru to halt his incursions.[2]
Eventually, Naoe found Shishimaru, ready to fight while surrounded by the bodies of his victims. Challenging her to a duel, Shishimaru fell to Naoe's blade, whereupon she recovered both the note detailing Genzaburo's threat and fellow soldier Yasokichi's location, and the ōdachi Inari's Bounty from his personal effects.[2]
