The Assault on Amagasaki Castle took place at Amagasaki Castle, Japan in 1582 during the late Sengoku period. It was fought between the remaining forces of the Ikkō-ikki and Wada Koretake, an Oda clan retainer and Shinbakufu member, and his forces.
The Assault on Amagasaki Castle
After the Ikkō-ikki's remaining forces reconvened through the efforts of Kyonyo's newfound ally and Igan kunoichi Fujibayashi Naoe, they waited till nightfall. Kyonyo, joined by sōhei Yaya, Mitsumune and his men, waited for Naoe's call to attack.[1] Recalling her father's death,[2] Naoe exclaimed in agreement to fight.[1]
Together, the Ikkō-ikki and Naoe stormed the castle. While the Ikkō-ikki fought against the foot soldiers, Naoe eliminated the surrounding ashigaru marksmen. Naoe soon found her way to the courtyard, where she saw Koretake proclaiming his chance to kill Kyonyo. Naoe then neared closer and assassinated the samurai. While Koretake lied on the ground bleeding, Naoe interrogated him about the box's location. Koretake screamed but remained hostile before Naoe struck a final blow against him.[1]
Aftermath
With the assault concluded, Mitsumune and his man held one of Oda samurai hostage while Yaya rebuffed his desire to kill the soldier. However, upon Naoe's and Kyonyo's insistence, the samurai was immediately killed. But after the brutality of the samurai's death and Yaya's disdain, Kyonyo ordered the rest of the men to be spared. Angered, Mitsumune left while Naoe pondered on the results, looking at the bodies of both Oda samurai and monks and how empty she still feels. Before going to their own ways, Kyonyo gifted a statue of Shinran to Naoe to help her in re-instilling her hope.[1]
At some point, Naoe tracked down Yaya and found her and local monks in Osaka fighting against some rōnin, who tried to steal temple relics. After defeating them and allowing one to be spared, they were informed that an associate with the rōnin, Tetsuo, a boy whom Yaya used to guide, stole her late husband's kanzashi and was last seen at Takatsuki Church.[3]
Working together, Naoe tracked down and chased after Tetsuo, only for Yaya to throw him into the ground, ultimately stopping him. Before tensions boiled over, Naoe advised Yaya to forgive him and herself, since he was left alone. Realizing her error, Yaya agreed and then asked for Tetsuo's forgiveness, to which he gave. Naoe then offered Yaya to join her Kakushiba ikki, for which she accepted.[3]
