Yasuke's mother (died 1570s) was an African slave to Portuguese Templar Nuno Caro and mother to Diogo.

Biography

Death

One rainy night on Caro's ship, she picked up Templar documents blown onto the floor with the help of her son Diogo. However, when the Templar Duarte de Melo saw them, he called for Caro and then grabbed the documents from her hands. Upon Caro's directive, they were taken out onto the deck while Duarte held down Diogo. Crying, she remained silent when Caro asked who sent them while Diogo pleaded not knowing anything. However, she was instantly shot dead. An Assassin soon had appeared and fought against the Templars and their men. Despite the Assassin falling to the Templars, Diogo escaped overboard with her necklace.[1]

Legacy and influence

Years later, Diogo became a retainer[2] and then samurai under Lord Oda Nobunaga. Going by Yasuke,[3] he later allied with kunoichi Fujibayashi Naoe[4] after Nobunaga's death[5] and then joined the Kakushiba ikki.[4] While on their mission against the Shinbakufu, he soon heard Duarte's name from fighting the pirate Samemaru.[6] Investigating further, this led Yasuke on his own mission, which led to de Melo's death,[7] and Caro's demise. Caro's death served as the league's declaration of war against the Templars.[1]
