Kaji (died 1582), also known as the Godai of Fire, was a Japanese shinobi and former student of the Rokkaku clan's patriarch, Rokkaku Yoshikata.
Biography
Originally part of am elite class of the Kōga-ryū ninjutsu school, Kaji and his fellow shinobi left their master Yoshikata after the downfall of the Kōga-ryū and the Rokkaku clan. Following Rokkaku Yoshimitsu, son of Yoshikata, they soon created an alliance among themselves. They later forged another alliance with the Shinbakufu, which tasked them to kill the Kakushiba ikki Fujibayashi Naoe, along with her ally, Oda Nobunaga's former samurai Yasuke.[1]
By 1582, after the Kakushiba ikki, Yoshikata and his daughter Rokkaku Katushime defeated and killed Shinbakufu member Akechi Kagemitsu, Yoshikata gave Naoe a list of his fallen student shinobi that were wreaking havoc around the provinces.[2] Following a clue about Kaji's location being near a burning pagoda, they traveled to Hiei Foothill. There, they talked with a terrified man, who detailed of a fire demon near the pagoda uphill. Finding the pagoda aflame, they soon found the Godai of Fire and promptly assassinated Kaji.[1]

Kaji was a bald shinobi who wielded a tantō as his main weapon.[1]
