Genpaku was a Japanese yamabushi who lived in Japan during the late Sengoku period.

Biography

In 1582, Genpaku was traveling through Yamato in Yoshino until he was startled by the presence of Kakushiba ikki members Fujibayashi Naoe and Yasuke. Initially scared, he talked with them and explained the recent predicament about false yamabushi having been attacking and killing people around Japan. Naoe and Yasuke agreed to help Genpaku and rid the land of these imposters.[1]

After finding and dealing with these imposters within the provinces of Ōmi, Iga, Yamato, and Kii, Naoe and Yasuke met with Genpaku again and told them that the people will no longer be threatened by these murderer. When Genpaku asked who they were, Naoe and Yasuke explained that they were originally sent by Lord Oda Nobunaga to search for any survivors of the invasion of Iga but time and loneliness warped their mission. Understanding, Genpaku thanked them for their help before departing.[1]

Behind the scenes

Genpaku also happens to be the brother of Yoshiharu, who met Naoe and her auntie Matsu after the invasion of Iga.[2]Through time, Matsu became a fellow inhabitant in their new home along with Yoshiharu's granddaughter Murasaki.[3]
