Suganuma Tenma (died 1585) was a Japanese shinobi who served under Nowaki, the personal ambusher of the Japanese Templar Kimura Yukari, in Awaji during the late Sengoku period.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Having an indifference to bathing, Suganuma Tenma was a shinobi who served under Nowaki, one of Kimura Yukari's three taishō (大将, lit. "general").[1] In 1585, following Yukari's death,[2] Tenma and his fellow shinobi Chiba Hachibei camped near the river bridge at Kannoji Temple. From his own investigation, he noted one of Yasuhira's spies at Sumoto Docks and another spy at Kamaguchi Village.[1]

However, the pair were discovered by the Kakushiba ikki members Fujibayashi Naoe and Yasuke, who were assisting Hattori Hanzō's ally Konatsu in killing the last Sanzoku Ippa members. Thus, Naoe and Yasuke assassinated Tenma, along with Hachibei, and then acquired his note and the Deathdealer Mask from his personal effects.[1]
