imported>Sol Pacificus m Sol Pacificus moved page Tanto to Tantō: Remember that when it comes to spelling/romanization, we decided that we would be correcting for errors & also using our own consistent standard. We are already marking long ⟨o⟩ for other pages, so we would have to do so here as well. This is also technically more correct spelling even though sometimes people like to drop the macron. |

The tanto is a Japanese sword with blade shorter than 30 centimeters in length,[1] and was used as an auxiliary weapon by the samurai alongside their katanas, as well as used by women and tradespeople for their personal defense during the Sengoku period.[2]
The Assassin Fujibayashi Naoe often used a tanto blade,[3] and would combine it with her Hidden Blade in order to perform double assassinations.[4] Mochizuki Chiyome also favored the weapon during her tenure as an Assassin.[5]
Behind the scenes
The tanto will be a usable weapon in the 2024 video game Assassin's Creed: Shadows.[3]
