Meeting Naoe and Yasuke
In 1582, Kinu and Kane became amateur treasure hunters and came across small talismans and riddle scrolls about a secret treasure. This led them to come across a large door with unknown markings in southern Wakasa. Arguing about what glyphs they pressed before, their argument brought the attention of Naoe and her ally Yasuke, who met with them. Naoe soon recognized them as the poachers she fought with in the past and rejected to help them at first. While reminiscing, Kinu developed a sort of infatuation with Naoe, who did not reciprocate the same feelings. Both men soon shared their findings and informed them of a glyph nearby. Afterwards, the door glowed again when Naoe and Yasuke came across a marking nearby. Later, both men then asked Naoe and Yasuke if they can work for them and promised them more scrolls if they could train under them.

The next day, Kinu and Kane joined Yasuke's lesson of drop-kicking your enemies. Naoe managed to aid in the teaching, especially to show when one's opponent is of greater size. Together, Kinu and Kane agreed to be used as practice while Naoe drop-kicked them repeatedly. Thanking them for his lesson, they gifted the pair three more riddle scrolls. After resting for a night, both men learned under Naoe, who taught them how to do a silent takedown. The following day, Kinu and Kane showcased their skills, however it did not impress Naoe and Yasuke much. After their demonstration, both men pushed their instructors to duel, to gauge who is better. After their duel, Naoe and Yasuke spoke to Kinu and Kane and welcomed them into their ikki as horse-stall cleaners. After some time, Kinu and Kane met with an English wanderer Eamon Hathaway, unaware that he was a Black Cross. When Eamon asked about the same symbols, both men informed him of the glyphs, gave their riddle scrolls, and stated that their ally Yasuke held a keystone. In response, he gifted them a wooden elephant. Later, they were present when Naoe returned with an unconscious, bloody Yasuke, left for dead by Eamon and his protégé Nirmala. The next morning, he and Kane gleefully saw Yasuke awake but they were told to go when Rufino came. Outside, they met with Naoe, whom they admitted about their previous talk with Eamon. After being scolded by Naoe, both men saw Yasuke standing as Naoe informed him and Rufino of the stall cleaners' stupidity. Thus, Kane and Kinu stayed behind for Yasuke while Naoe and Rufino left to confront the Black Crosses.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Early life[edit | edit source]

On 6 October 1579, Kinu and Kane traveled in Iga and raided one of its resident's vegetable garden outside the home. After stealing some of the crops, they also killed a deer and harvested its meat while leaving its carcass behind. At their makeshift camp, Kinu and Kane fussed over their meal before they were confronted by a young kunoichi-in-training Fujibayashi Naoe. While pleading for mercy, they noticed that she only wielded a bokken. Drawing their katanas, they fought against Naoe, but were outmatched and fled into the woods.[1]

Meeting Naoe and Yasuke[edit | edit source]

Later, both men then asked Naoe and Yasuke if they can work for them and promised them more scrolls if they could train under them.[2]

The next day, Kinu and Kane joined Yasuke's lesson and learned how to drop-kick their enemies. Naoe assisted the lesson, showing how to react when an opponent was of greater size. Together, both men allowed to be used as practice dummies. Thanking them for the lesson, they gave the pair three more riddle scrolls.[3] After resting for a night, both men learned under Naoe, who taught them how to do a silent takedown. With Yasuke also learning, Kinu and Kane also offered to be practice for him. Impressed by their skills, both men promised to showcase what they learned. Before taking a rest, they gave four more riddle scrolls to Naoe and Yasuke as thanks for the lesson.[4]

The following day, Kinu and Kane showcased their skills, however it did not impress Naoe and Yasuke much. After their demonstration, both men pushed their instructors to duel, to gauge who was better. After their duel, Naoe and Yasuke spoke to Kinu and Kane and welcomed them into their ikki as stablehands. Happy and elated, Kinu and Kane roared gleefully before traveling to their new home.[5]

Opposing the Black Cross[edit | edit source]

After some time, Kane and Kinu met an English wanderer, unaware that he was the Black Cross Eamon Hathaway. When Eamon asked about the glowing door symbols, both men informed him of the glyphs, gave their riddle scrolls, and stated that their ally Yasuke held a keystone. In gratitude, he gifted them a wooden elephant. Later, they were present when Naoe returned with an unconscious, bloody Yasuke, whom Eamon and his protégé Nirmala had left for dead after a fight for the keystone. The next morning, he and Kane gleefully saw Yasuke awake but they were told to go when Rufino came. Outside, they met with Naoe and admitted about their previous talk with Eamon. After her receiving her scolding, both men saw Yasuke standing as Naoe informed him and Rufino of their stupidity. Thus, Kane and Kinu stayed behind for Yasuke while Naoe and Rufino left to confront the Black Crosses.[6]

However, Yasuke asked Kinu and Kane to accompany him to the temple. At the door, Yasuke entered into the cave alone while Kinu and Kane stayed outside. While waiting, Kinu and Kane managed to retrieve treasures left behind as false leads by the mercenary Kassandra, who had found the place ages beforehand and sought to dissuade people from venturing further inside. After some time, Kinu looked at Kane, who began to doubt their survival. Fortunately, they saw Yasuke, Naoe, and Rufino exit the temple alive. Before leaving, Yasuke broke the keystone and threw inside right before it shut, making sure it remained closed indefinitely.[7]
