Yamashiro Province (山城国, Yamashiro no Kuni) was a province of Japan which today includes the southern part of Kyoto Prefecture. The province and the former capital of Kyoto served as the seat of the Imperial Court and the Ashikaga shogunate.[1]
At the time of the Sengoku period in the 16th century, the province bordered Wakasa to the north, Ōmi to the northeast, Iga to the east, Yamato to the southeast, Izumi Settsu to the south, Harima to the southwest, and Tamba to the west.[2]
