Itakura Shigezo (板倉 重蔵; died 1582) was a Japanese servant who worked for Oda Nobunaga.

Biography[edit | edit source]

In 1582, Shigezo was told by one of Akechi Mitsuhide's representatives to sabotage Nobunaga's defenses at Honnō-ji in small but vital ways. When Mitsuhide and his forces attacked Nobunaga shortly thereafter, Shigezo was left behind by his co-conspirators. Fearful, he left Kyoto and found new employment in Himeji, but was afraid of being discovered for his part in Nobunaga's death.[1]

After the incident at Honnō-ji, Toyotomi Hideyoshi's retainer Hori Hidemasa met and spoke with the Kakushiba ikki member Yasuke, another former Oda clan retainer. Informing Yasuke about the various people involved in the attack against Nobunaga, Hidemasa convinced him to help him track down and eliminate the traitors.[1]

Following Hidemasa's intel, Yasuke and fellow Kakushiba ikki member Fujibayashi Naoe traveled to Himeji and located Shigezo. They promptly assassinated him and retrieved the Samurai Daimyo Armor from his personal effects.[1]
