Akai Teruko (1514 – 1594) was a Japanese onna-musha during the Sengoku period who fought many battles during her younger years and commanded an battalion of soldiers at the age of seventy.[1]

Specializing in naginatajutsu, Teruko based herself in the Kansai region in 1582, where she offered kata training to any willing participants. One such seeker was the samurai Yasuke, who attended her sessions at Inorino Falls in Yamato and near Kumano Sanzan in Kii.[2]
