Monta (門太) was a Japanese man who lived in Iga with his wife Shinobu during the late 16th century.

Biography

Following Oda Nobunaga's conquest of Iga in September 1581, Monta and his wife fled west to Izumi Settsu. After some time, they arrived outside a homestead belonging to a woman named Tomiko, where they met fellow Igan Fujibayashi Naoe. Monta expressed happiness at her survival and informed her of the fate of many of their former neighbours. Naoe then invited Monta and Shinobu to stay at the homestead, which she intended to develop into a community. Monta and Shinobu accepted the offer, volunteering to help out as scouts and gather information for her.[1]
