The Laughing Man (died 1582) was a Japanese rōnin and participant in kabukimono culture located in Harima.
Biography
As a kabukimono, the Laughing Man was one of the multiple rōnin who attacked the communities across the provinces of Izumi Settsu and Harima. Alongside the Corrupt Blade and the Peacock, he was one of three elite kabukimono. However, the priest Shin'nyo of the Nishinomiya Shrine conversed with the Kakushiba ikki member Fujibayashi Naoe to take down the kabukimono.[1]
By 1582, the Laughing Man was known for his insatiable hunger for power and recruited any rōnin willing to follow his campaign. Yet, Naoe soon found and assassinated the Laughing Man and acquired a trinket, the Flight of the Ubagabi, from his personal effects.[1]
Personality and traits
The Laughing Man wielded a katana as his main weapon.[2]
Behind the scenes
The Laughing Man is a character in Assassin's Creed: Shadows and serves as one of eight targets in "The Kabukimono". The player is given the choice when posting a reply on a board at Nishinomiya Shrine to the elite kabukimono. This leads the player to either killing the Laughing Man at Blackstone Cascades or killing him along with the Corrupt Blade and the Peacock at a small outpost in southern Harima.
