Honnō-ji (本能寺) is a Nichiren Buddhist temple in the city of Kyoto, Japan. The temple is most notable for the Honnō-ji incident which saw Oda Nobunaga's betrayal by Akechi Mitsuhide, one of his closest generals and a member of the Shinbakufu, forcing him to commit seppuku,[1] the event which came to be known as the Honnō-ji incident.[2]
