The Godai Shinobi (五大忍び) were a group of shinobi operating during Sengoku period Japan. The group were originally the elite of the Kōga-ryū ninjutsu school, being trained by the patriarch of the Rokkaku clan, Rokkaku Yoshikata.[1] The group name comes from the godai, the five elements that constitute reality as thought by Japanese Buddhism.[2] As such, each of the five members adopted one of those elements: earth, fire, water, air and void.

After the fall of the Kōga-ryu and the Rokkaku clan, Rokkaku Yoshimitsu, son of Yoshikata and Godai of the Void, forged an alliance between the shinobi and the Shinbakufu, with the former students being tasked with eliminating Fujibayashi Naoe, alongside her allies Yasuke and Rokkaku Katsuhime, Yoshimitsu's sister. The plan ultimately failed, with Naoe killing all five members before their plan came to fruition.[3]
