They call me many things: Murderer. Cutthroat. Thief. But you may call me The Blacksmith Agent.

This article is about a subject that lacks an official name and is known only by its nickname, title, or alias.

The Blacksmith Agent (died 1582) was a Japanese blacksmith and a member of the Kurai Eikyou located in Miyataki, Yamato.

Biography

Working as a blacksmith, the agent joined the Kurai Eikyou, a group of criminals that aimed to sow terror and turmoil among the locals of Yamato. The blacksmith aided his group by manufacturing weapons to help arm both his fellow conspirators and both sides of the civil war between Lord Tsutsui Junkei and Lady Akiyama Ayako, in order to wedge a larger divide between the two clans.[1]

In 1582, the Kakushiba ikki members Fujibayashi Naoe and Yasuke followed a letter they read from the merchant agent's home to a town in western Uda Matsuyama. There, they eavesdropped on a rival blacksmith lamenting the loss of his contract to the target they sought, and acquired the target's location. Traveling to Miyataki, Naoe and Yasuke found the corrupt blacksmith working in plain sight and ultimately assassinated him. From his personal effects, they uncovered a clue about an Akiyama shugodai ordering his men to kill locals as a means to sully the Akiyama clan's reputation.[1]
