Shin'nyo (真如) was a Shinto priest who based at the Nishinomiya Shrine in Izumi Settsu during the late 16th century.

Biography

As the head priest of the shrine in Nishinomiya, Shin'nyo bore witness to the antics of a group of "colorful" ronins who called themselves the kabukimono, who disregard the traditional styles of ronins and often broke the law, causing nuisance to the common folk. Shin'nyo could do little to stop them for he was simply a priest and do not have the skills to face up to them.[1]

However, this changed when his shrine was visited by the Iga kunoichi Fujibayashi Naoe, who herself have heard stories surrounding the kabukimono. Shin'nyo told Naoe in depth about their actions and later provided her clues regarding their whereabouts after Naoe agreed to help him hunt them down.[1]
