Mangetsu-ji

Mangetsu-ji is a Buddhist temple west of Lake Biwa in Ōmi, Japan.

History

In 1582, Azai Jukei, a member of the Godai Shinobi, stationed herself at the temple and killed any travelers that traversed towards the temple while looking for the Kakushiba ikki members Fujibayashi Naoe and Yasuke. Coincidentally, Naoe and Yasuke soon discovered Jukei at the temple after corresponding with her former mentor Shōtei. They saw her writing a verse of a poem before they confronted and assassinated her. They then retrieved the tantō Typhoon Tanto from her personal effects before leaving.[1]
