Biography

Joining the Templars

When he arrived in Japan, Ermigo found a fellow Portuguese stray Rufino and built a close friendship with him after Rufino was left on his own.[1] Unbeknownst to Rufino, Ermigo was part of the Templar Order working with local Templar leader Gaspar to further expand their reach. Thus, Ermigo had Rufino gather information about influential locals within Izumi Settsu, Yamashiro, and Ōmi.[2]

With this information, Ermigo commissioned a group of hired killers to murder these civilian targets, so the Templars can replace them with their own allies. However, Rufino figured out the Templars' plan, escaped from them, and learned that his information was on a ship near Sakai. Nevertheless, Ermigo continued on with Gaspar's plan to eliminate their chosen targets.[1]

However, the Kakushiba ikki members Yasuke and Fujibayashi Naoe learned about the killers' plans after meeting with Rufino at the homestead, due to him being an old friend of Tomiko. Traveling and boarding the ship, they destroyed the intel and even killed one of the hired killers. However, they all learned that some of the contracts went out, which led Naoe and Yasuke to seek out the rest of the killers themselves.[1]

After assassinating all of the killers, Naoe and Yasuke shared their findings with Rufino, who deciphered the location of Ermigo at Kashiwabara Fortress. Yet, Rufino left for the fortress himself while sending Naoe and Yasuke to a false location at Okinoshiroishi.[3] Traveling to the fortress, Rufino then confronted Ermigo about exploiting him and making him responsible for these crimes. Ermigo responded that this was all for peace before being interrupted by an angered Naoe and Yasuke. When Yasuke claimed that Ermigo worked for the Templars, Rufino guarded him and stated that he did too before they both reached for their weapons.[2]

At that moment, Gaspar left the fortress' tower, blamed Ermigo for leading them all here, and ordered his men to kill them all, with Rufino being first. When his men fired the shot at Rufino, Ermigo stood in its way and took the bullet. Falling down bleeding, Rufino held his friend while Naoe threw a smoke bomb to cover them all. Together, Naoe, Yasuke, and Rufino fought against Gaspar and his men and ultimately killed them. Comforted, Ermigo told Rufino that he wished he had joined them and saw the truth of their cause before passing from his injuries. After his death, Naoe and Yasuke then forgave Rufino and offered him a place in their league, which Rufino accepted.[2]
