Shorin was a Japanese sōhei who operated in the Kansai region of Japan during the late 16th century.
A master of the naginata, Shorin traveled around the region teaching kata to willing learners. While Shorin was based at Kuya Falls in the west of Yamashiro, the samurai Yasuke sought him out and accepted a kata lesson to master the naginata. When Shorin later moved to Kannabiyama in the northeast of Izumi Settsu, Yasuke found him again and received another kata lesson from the sohei master.[1]
