Shindo Hiroshii (died 1582) was a samurai who served under Oda Nobunaga during the late 16th century.
Biography
As the chief executioner to Nobunaga, Hiroshii was placed in charge of interrogating, torturing, and executing his lord's enemies, using the execution site at Nanatsumatsu near Amagasaki. He was a close associate of fellow retainer Wada Koretake of the Wada clan. The two worked together in 1582 to try and rid Izumi Settsu of the Ikkō-ikki resistance led by Kyonyo, seeking to use their heads as a warning to anyone who dared oppose Nobunaga.[1]
One day, while preparing to execute a number of captives, Hiroshii was attacked by the Iga kunoichi Fujibayashi Naoe, who came seeking Koretake's whereabouts. Although Hiroshii and his men put up a fight, they were ultimately defeated and killed by Naoe, who then looted a letter from Koretake to Hiroshii from the latter's body.[1]
