Rokkaku Yoshimitsu (died 1582), also known as the Godai of Void, was a Japanese shinobi and son of the Rokkaku clan's patriarch, Rokkaku Yoshikata.

Biography

Originally part of an elite class of the Kōga-ryū ninjutsu school, Rokkaku Yoshimitsu and his fellow shinobi left his father and their master Yoshikata after the downfall of the Kōga-ryū and thus the Rokkaku clan. Under his leadership, the group became the Godai Shinobi and forged an alliance with the Shinbakufu, who tasked them to kill the Kakushiba ikki members Fujibayashi Naoe, Yasuke, and Rokkaku Katsuhime, Yoshikata's daughter and Yoshimitsu's step-sister.[1]

In 1582, after the Kakushiba ikki helped him eliminate the Shinbakufu member Akechi Kagemitsu, Yoshikata gave Naoe a list of his fallen students who were wreaking havoc across Japan, trusting her to put a stop to their activities.[2]

Following a clue about Yoshimitsu's location, the Kakushiba ikki members Naoe and Yasuke investigated north of Odani, where they found corpses of wanderers and a letter to Azai Jukei dictating how he moved himself to Daikichiji Temple. When they arrived to the temple, they talked with travelers who spoke of a shinobi having attacked them and how he hid in a cave near the temple.[1]

Death

When Naoe and Yasuke ventured into the cave, Yoshimitsu set off a smoke bomb trap and faced them head-on. However, he was slain by Naoe and Yasuke, who retrieved the tantō, Call of the Void, from his personal effects. They also recovered a letter to his fellow members dictating their alliance to the Shinbakufu before leaving.[1]

Personality and traits

Within his group, Rokkaku Yoshimitsu held an intimate relationship with fellow Godai Shinobi member Azai Jukei, the Godai of Water.[1]
