Asajiro (died 1582) was a Japanese gunsmith who lived and operated in Sakai during the 16th century alongside his brother Yakichi.
Biography[edit | edit source]
In 1582, Asajiro, wishing to increase their wealth and improve their lives, use his brother's mon to acquire forged trading contracts, thirty bars of silver for the Portuguese of Nagasaki" or "a shipment of Tanegashima teppo" for Oda Nobunaga and present them to Imai Sokun and his father Sokyu, who were at at the top of the Sakai's ruling class. He had hoped that contracts would open up their pathway to success and be a stepping stone to gaining higher status. Yakichi, however, expressed doubt as Sokun knows him personally and would find it hard to believe he had the ability to acquire these contracts.
