Assassin's Creed: Visionaries is a comic miniseries set within the world of Assassin's Creed albeit outside of the mainline continuity of the franchise inhabited by the games. Originally intended as a graphic novel anthology, the book showcases different interpretations of the Assassins from a variety of artists.

The Assassin's Creed® franchise was created over 15 years ago, so what better way to celebrate it than to give renowned comic artists complete creative freedom to share their own, personal visions of Ubisoft's hidden blade-wielding, parkour-running, century-spanning Assassin's Creed®? Assassin's Creed: Visionaries will be the first Assassin's Creed comic adaptation to debut before a video game release. Each issue will feature two stories by today's top talents in the comics and pop culture industry and all assassin characters will be created by the artists themselves.[1]

Development[edit | edit source]
On 27 March 2023, Studio Lounak announced their desire to celebrate the series' 15th anniversary by creating a Kickstarter campaign[2] for a graphic novel anthology featuring work by more than 20 artists and for various non-canonical stories set in different time periods.[3] The fundraising campaign began on 11 April and asked for $125,000 within a month, but by 10 May, the project had only earned just over 51% of the necessary funds, failing to meet its goal and cancelling the project.[2] On 22 July, Studio Lounak revealed that it would still continue the idea by turning the anthology into a series under the same name, with each issue expected to feature two stories.[4] The first issue was slated for a 15 November 2023 release[5] but was later pushed to the 29th of the same month. While the series was originally meant to have 4 issues,[1] the last one was cancelled without announcement and the collected volume compiled only the first 3.[6]

The partnership between Studio Lounak and Massive Publishing will provide a full year of Assassin's Creed comics that will go beyond Visionaries and will include "prestige format issues of Studio Lounak's original Assassin's Creed stories (such as Assassin's Creed The Fall and The Chain) but also some stories that had never before released through the direct market before.
