- Iga, 1560
Tsuyu meets with Hattori Hanzō and Fujibayashi Masayasu at the training grounds, where she explains that she will be their instructor while her mentor Alvaro Catarribera is away on a mission in Osaka. She states that they will learn to fight as Assassins, not as shinobi, but Hanzō objects, asking why Momochi Sandayu has brought outside instructors instead of training them himself. Tsuyu remarks that the Assassins and Sandayu share the same ideals and that her first task is to evaluate their skills and potential. While Hanzō offers to go first, Tsuyu instructs both him and Masayasu to attack together. Readying themselves, the two charge at Tsuyu at the same time.
When Masayasu tries to strike, Tsuyu dodges him easily. Hanzō uses two smoke bombs to disorient her vision, but Tsuyu uses her gift to see through the smoke, noticing Hanzō hanging on a rope with a kunai in his hand. Timing it well, she dodges his attacks and tells him that he is slightly better face-to-face. After Tsuyu pushes Hanzō aside, Masayasu charges once more at her but she counters him. Concentrating on the fight, he notices a movement on the ground and quickly moves to carry Tsuyu off her feet.
Surprised, Tsuyu asks what he is doing, to which Masayasu explains that a serpent was on the ground, so he decided to save her. Thankful, Tsuyu takes a look at his eyes intensely before demanding to be put down. Masayasu then recalls a moment after yesterday's meeting where he asked Sandayu why he was chosen given his short tenure. Sandayu admitted that Tsuyu had noticed something in his eyes and how he could see things others could not.
Standing up, Tsuyu ends the lesson and tells Masayasu and Hanzō to rest while she goes elsewhere to rest herself. The two talk about Tsuyu's prowess as Masayasu prepares to leave. Hanzō stays and keeps some strands of Tsuyu's hair, believing that there was something between them during their fight. Later, at night, Tsuyu sleeps in the watchtower while Hanzō secretly climbs up and finds her. Surprised, Hanzō stands over her and begins to approach her.
