Plot synopsis[edit | edit source]

Having cut off one of the limbs of the stone guardian that attacked the East India Company's forces, "Edward Kenway" addresses "John Young", saying that he had a feeling he would find him there. When John asks what Edward wants from him, the Assassin responds that he simply wishes to save his friend from his own ambition. As the colossal statue recovers from Edward's attack, the Assassin and John decide to put their differences aside for now and work together to defeat it.

Edward strikes the statue with his sword, though it proves less effective than before, and the Assassin is knocked back. Before the statue can crush him, a cannon shot from the Company stuns the beast, allowing Edward to resume his attacks. John orders the Company soldiers to continue their bombardment and avoid hitting Edward. Eventually, through their combined efforts, Edward and John succeed in damaging and knocking down the statue, allowing the former to deliver the final blow.

With the threat neutralized, John makes a joke about Edward handling himself just fine and seemingly not needing his help, prompting the Assassin to remind John of all the times he saved his life in the past. However, John is reluctant to resume their old partnership, while Alan Jacob is less than pleased with Edward's presence. He orders the Assassin to explain himself or leave immediately, prompting Edward to propose a truce, given that the Forgotten Temple's guardians still vastly outnumber them and they would stand a better fighting chance if they were to join forces.

Though agreeing with Edward's points, Alan is still reluctant to work with the Assassin given their opposing allegiances. In response, Edward mockingly tells the Templar to ask "his precious Father of Understanding" for guidance, as he would also agree that logic should take priority over personal feelings. Alan is infuriated by Edward's comment, prompting John to step in to de-escalate the tensions. He concurs that sticking together will increase their chances of success, and decides to go with Edward and help him activate one of the control units that will open the pathway to the temple's core.

Left alone with his men, Alan tells them that, for now, they have no choice but to join forces with their enemies if they are to accomplish their greater purpose. As stone guardians begin approaching the Templars, Alan and his men prepare to hold them off and buy Edward and John enough time to complete their task.

In another part of the temple, Shimazu Sei is making her way to the northern control unit, guided by Claire Zhang's eagle drone. Despite the temple's ever-shifting layout, Claire notes that there is a certain pattern to the changes and that Sei should reach the control unit if she follows the passage she is currently in. Furthermore, thanks to the power she absorbed from the second Piece of Eden when Noa Kim used it to heal her, Sei has gained Eagle Vision, allowing her to see the correct path.

With Sigma Team already on its way to the heart of the temple, Claire states that their first priority should be to seize control of the central elevator that the Abstergo agents have taken. To achieve this, they need to access the auxiliary control units in each part of the temple and open the ceiling for the elevator. As Sei gets closer to the northern control unit, her path is blocked by three stone guardians. Armed with her golden bow, Sei is confident that the statues will pose no challenge and prepares to fight them.
