Summary[edit | edit source]
- Mikawa, 1561
At the eastern gate of the Imagawa Mansion, two guards patrol the main gate and notice nothing out of the ordinary. While talking among each other, Hattori Hanzō strikes one of the guards from above before moving quickly to silence the other guard. Moving quickly and quietly, Hanzō climbs and infiltrates the mansion's grounds.
A few moments earlier, Hanzō and Watanabe Moritsuna discuss the operation again as they go over the map of the mansion. While both the main and north gates prove difficult to infiltrate, Hanzō decides to go alone through the eastern gate due to the advantages of being near the mountains and multiple places to hide. While Moritsuna offers a squad of his shinobi, Hanzō explains that he has the Hidden Blade to help him rescue Sena and her kids. While advancing towards the mansion, Hanzō stops and asks Moritsuna about what family means to him. Moritsuna explains that he only wants to be a worthy successor to his family and that he needs to make up due to the strife he caused, especially to his mother. When Hanzō states that he has a normal family, Moritsuna replies that all families are the same, leading Hanzō to be ponder on his own sullen memories. Leaving, Hanzō tells Moritsuna that they will reunite later.
While atop the rooftops, Hanzō stealthily passes all the guards and makes his way inside the main building. Inside, he comes across a conversation between Imagawa retainer Udono Nagateru speaking to one of the concubines Okiku. Talking about the welfare of the Imagawa clan after Imagawa Yoshimoto's death and how he is working with Paulino Massa to rebuild the clan, Nagateru questions why Okiku has not produced a male heir after multiple girls. Okiku begs for forgiveness for her family's sake but Nagateru states that none of this will be necessary. Okiku then grabs her heart and falls onto the floor dead while Nagateru reveals that he poisoned her sake due to her failure and impure blood. Shocked, Hanzō leaves but his anger grows over watching Okiku die.
A few days earlier, Alvaro Catarribera stands over his target, a Japanese Templar, who begins to chuckle while bleeding and calls Alvaro persistent. While Alvaro states that he is making sure the Templars do not spread across the country, the Templar laughs and states they have already expanded to all parts of the country before dying. After giving the Templar his last rites, he leaves and thinks about the justice he needs to carry out. He also knows that he is not alone as he has his apprentice Tsuyu, who he sees as a daughter, and she represents a tiny opportunity to redeem himself.
