Plot synopsis[edit | edit source]
As the Rattan Shield Company charges at them, Edward Kenway tells Shimazu Saito to deal with Admiral Zheng while he throws a couple of bombs at the soldiers, causing their shields to catch fire. The Company's captain appears and orders his men to stand aside while he duels Edward. The Assassin struggles to defend himself, as the captain's superior strength allows him to break Edward's sword with his guandao after a few hits. Disarmed, Edward takes advantage of the captain's strike embedding the guandao in the ship's deck to stab him in the throat with his Hidden Blade.
The remaining shieldmen try to stop Saito's advance, but she swiftly leaps over them and kills them from above. Zheng's lieutenant jumps in to protect his captain, but he too falls to Saito's sword, leaving the admiral defenseless. Furious, Zheng tries shooting Saito before pulling out her own sword. As the two begin to duel, Zheng declares that she will not allow anyone to get near Madam Lee for as long as she lives.
After a grueling fight, Saito manages to impale Zheng's pistol with her kunai, forcing the admiral to discard it. Pushed back, Zheng grabs a lit candle and kicks over a crate full of petroleum before declaring that she has Saito and Edward "trapped like moths inside a lamp". Unconcerned for her own life, Zheng then drops the candle, igniting the petroleum and setting the entire ship alight.
Witnessing the rapidly spreading inferno, Edward tells Saito that they must escape before the fire reaches the gunpowder storage room and the ship blows up. Meanwhile, a crazed Zheng takes the helm and begins steering the burning vessel towards the Fenghuang, intending to destroy her enemies' ship alongside her own. As the Fenghuang's crew panics at the sight of the approaching fireship, Zheng sings a sea shanty, completely oblivious to a turtle ship approaching from the side. The turtle ship rams her vessel, knocking Zheng overboard. Sinking into the depths, the admiral can only lament her failure to stop the Zhang Wei Union and ponder at who will protect Madam Lee now.
Meanwhile, Edward and Saito escape the burning ship by jumping into the water, whereupon they are picked up by the Fenghuang. Once aboard, Edward addresses the crew, telling them to behold the fate of all those who stand in their way, before the Fenghuang resumes its voyage towards the mainland. With his memory sequence complete, the Brahman 3.0 loads the next sequence.
Having successfully arrived in Indochina, the Fenghuang docks on the Mekong River, where the crew makes preparations for their expedition to Angkor. Edward goes to speak with Yun Pyeong-Gyu, who has just finished his latest invention that will take them to their destination. When Edward remarks that it is larger than he imagined, Yun mentions that they had to cannibalize several of their boats to put it together, but the end result should easily be able to carry at least ten people. With that, Yun officially introduces his creation: the Celestial Chariot Mk. 4, a prototype blimp.
