Summary[edit | edit source]
- Iga, 1560
At the hut, Hattori Hanzō defeats his shinobi assailant with ease, throwing him outside. Calling the man a coward and offering no mercy, Hanzō kills him without hesitation. Fujibayashi Masayasu arrives moments later and finds Hanzō, who tells him that his opponent posed no challenge. Feeling inadequate from his own fight, Masayasu is asked about Tsuyu and reveals that she has left Iga, surprising Hanzō. He explains that she and her mentor Alvaro Catarribera will be traveling to Mikawa to determine the Templars' base of operations. Tsuyu had told him and Momochi Sandayu that Masayasu was to stay in Iga to continue his training, as he was not yet ready to undertake such a mission.
When Masayasu disheartenedly states that he will never be as strong as Hanzō and Tsuyu, Hanzō stops him and tells him bluntly that, in a matter of months, he has already made much progress and proven himself very capable. Before taking his leave, Hanzō tells Masayasu to continue on his present course and not to lose sight of his objectives.
Some days later, Tsuyu meets Alvaro on the outskirts of Sakai as she explains that her delayed arrival was due to Iga being attacked by mercenaries sent by the Templars. Discussing the Templars, Alvaro explains that they know of their enemies having bases of operation in both Mikawa and Nagasaki. While Mikawa appears to be at peace, Imagawa Yoshimoto was recently defeated by Oda Nobunaga, and Alvaro suspects that the Templars will use this opportunity to try and gain the favor of Yoshimoto's son. Thus, he instructs Tsuyu to investigate the matter while he heads to Nagasaki.
Out of nowhere, Hanzō appears and offers to join the Assassins on their mission. Alvaro states that Hanzō was not invited, only for the latter to counter that Mikawa is his home province and he knows the place better than either of them. Alvaro asks Tsuyu about Hanzō, to which she states that Hanzō is an ally but not her friend. To test his constitution, Alvaro attacks Hanzō, who skillfully blocks his attack and correctly deduces that the Imperial Regalia is not in Iga at all.
Alvaro offers Hanzō two choices: join their Brotherhood or die at this very moment. Hanzō asks if they are the only two members of their Brotherhood, to which Alvaro explains that he was excommunicated from his Brotherhood and traveled to Japan after learning of the Templars' movements. Asked again about his choice, Hanzō agrees to join the Assassins. Alvaro then hands Hanzō a Hidden Blade as he explains the weapon's unique capabilities.
Decided, Hanzō is ordered to go to Mikawa to investigate the Templars' operations while Tsuyu will head back to Iga. Understanding, Tsuyu grabs Hanzō's arm with the blade and tells him to remember the principles and techniques he learned. Blushing, Hanzō promises to return to Iga once his mission is complete. He also asks Tsuyu to inform Sandayu of the path he walks now, as he is certain his master will not be happy with his decision. Saying goodbye, Hanzō leaves for Mikawa.
At some point in the future, Hanzō returns and faces off against an opponent, who tells him to respond. Hanzō bluntly states that he plans to leave Iga for good.
