Plot synopsis[edit | edit source]
Claire Zhang introduces Noa Kim to the Brahman 3.0, the Zhawang Corporation's very own Animus. She claims that the Brahman is an improvement over Abstergo Industries' Animus models, maximizing synchronization rates by allowing for increased mobility to match the host's exact movements. However, she also mentions that previous test subjects—including her own brother Nathan—suffered severe physical and mental damage due to the Bleeding Effect manifesting after just a few attempts, forcing the Corporation to end its human trials until now.
Noa is hesitant to enter the Brahman, but Claire assures him that his higher resistance to the Bleeding Effect, as well as his Piece of Eden which can heal psychic damage, should remove all risks and allow him to operate the machine safely. Noa is still unconvinced and jokes with Nathan about Claire's "ruthlessness" before one of the Assassins intervenes. He tells Noa that he understands his concerns but that, due to the lack of any faster alternatives, the Brahman is currently their only solution to track down the Forgotten Temple before Abstergo.
A reluctant Noa concedes and prepares to enter the machine. As two scientists help him with the Brahman's mechanical arm, the Assassin approaches Noa and hands him Edward Kenway's Hidden Blades, telling him that he might need them on his next travels. Noa sarcastically thanks the Assassin for the "gift" and, now equipped with both of his ancestor's blades, begins to synchronize with Edward's memories.
In the past, the Zhang Wei Union's fleet approaches the coast of Indochina, where both the East India Company and Admiral Zheng's fleet have formed a naval blockade. The Templar admiral is informed of the approaching enemy armada and orders his men to engage it, refusing to allow some lowly pirates to interfere with Grand Master Alan Jacob's search for the Forgotten Temple. At the same time, Zheng seeks to maintain her blockade until Madam Lee finds the temple and fulfills her "grand cause", so she also instructs her crew to engage the Union's fleet.
Surrounded by enemy ships from all sides, the pirates begin panicking until Edward fires his pistol to draw their attention. He proceeds to address all of his allies, reminding them that when they embarked on their voyage, it was to defend the most valuable treasure of all: their freedom. He then declares that, while the age of pirates may soon come to an end and the sea as they know it will be no more, that day has not arrived yet and they will fight against all odds to defend their liberty.
With all the pirates rallied under a common cause, Edward orders them to break through the enemy's line of defense. The first fleet to engage them is the East India Company's, but despite being heavily outnumbered, the Union members' superior firepower allows them to easily sink a number of Company ships. Furious, the Templar admiral orders his men to maintain their blockade and sink the Fenghuang. As two Men O' War attempt to flank the Union's flagship, a privateer captain volunteers to deal with them, telling Edward that her crew will clear his path ahead.
The captain's distraction is successful, resulting in the destruction of one Man O' War, but the second manages to ram the Fenghuang. After Yun Pyeong-Gyu remarks that they are unable to open fire on the enemy ship due to the risk of sinking their own vessel in the process, Edward volunteers to deal with the problem. He makes his way up the Fenghuang's mast and observes the Company sailors below before boarding the Man O' War. As Edward leaps from the mast, both he and Noa declare that the "Scourge of the Caribbean" is back.
