Assassin's Creed: Forgotten Temple Episode 23
Assassin's Creed: Forgotten Temple Episode 23 is the twenty-third episode of Redice Studio's webtoon Assassin's Creed: Forgotten Temple, a sequel to Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. The webtoon, written by ARC and SHYATAN and with art by Tabii, was released on 26 September 2023.
Plot synopsis[edit | edit source]
Noa Kim goes to investigate a shootout that broke out between Shimazu Sei's guards and several armed thugs. Wanting to protect Sei, Noa notices two men approaching him and attacks them, but stops when one of the men reveals that they are there to rescue him. Realizing that he may be an Assassin, Noa rejects his offer and tells him that he has unfinished business. The man shoots Noa with a tranquillizer, but Noa is unaffected and pins the man against a wall. Restating his purpose, Noa convinces the man to leave him for now, but not before the man states that they do not abandon their family.
Meanwhile, Sei's guards attempt to escort her to safety, but she refuses to leave without Noa. After the thugs kill the last of her guards, Sei is left at their mercy and is surprised to see Noa come to her rescue, dispatching the attackers all by himself. When the doctor asks why he did not run away, Noa responds that their deal is still intact. As they leave, the men who attempted to rescue Noa call their superior to tell him what happened. He decides to respect Noa's decision to return to Abstergo, but also orders his men to continue keeping an eye on him, as Noa may yet need their help, and again reminds them that they do not abandon their family.
Back in confinement at the Abstergo facility, Noa reflects on his fight with the thugs and how the effects of the Animus almost made him lose control. At that moment, Sei arrives to tell Noa that they translated the ledger he had recovered and that it contains information about Edward Kenway's later activities. She reveals that after Edward established the Zhang Wei Union, he left Macau as he began operating throughout all of Southeast Asia. Returning to the Animus, Noa is told to use the information from the book to continue tracking Edward's memories while Sei thanks him for saving her life.
In a glimpse, Noa relives the memory of Edward establishing the Zhang Wei Union. Standing before the assembled people of Zhang's village, Edward declares that they will operate as a legitimate shipping company, be free to govern themselves, and be united like a family, similarly to the Pirate Republic he was part of back in the Caribbean. When Edward states that their one rule will be to never abandon family, Noa realizes it is the same motto he heard from the man at the A-Ma Cultural Village.
