Summary[edit | edit source]
- Iga, 1560
Hattori Hanzō approaches a sleeping Tsuyu but she pulls out her Hidden Blade, holds him at bladepoint, and interrogates him on why he is there. Stunned, Hanzō admits that he came to see if they can start over as friends, much to Tsuyu's surprise. He reasons that since they are training together, it would be best to talk and learn more about each other. Although Hanzō feels that his emotions may paint him in a corner, Tsuyu agrees that they should get to know each other better.
Sitting together, Hanzō questions Tsuyu about her upbringing and asks if there was someone in her romantic life, to which she answers that her work is her sole path. While reflecting on the trauma of her upbringing, Tsuyu claims that having a family is unnecessary and that a potential child may not inherit her or their father's abilities.
Two weeks later, Tsuyu, Hanzō, and Fujibayashi Masayasu meet atop a mountain as Tsuyu discusses both of their evaluations. While Hanzō has proven himself capable of fighting like an Assassin, Masayasu is told to practice harder. Seemingly taking the criticism well, Masayasu begins to doubt himself despite his studying of shinobi techniques and practising the movements.
As Hanzō makes fun of Masayasu's progress, Tsuyu offers to broaden their minds about how an Assassin does not always have to learn to fight. Taking out a kunai, she points it towards the cliff edge and instructs Masayasu and Hanzō to jump from it. She goes on to explain that the technique she is about to teach them serves as both a means of escape and a method to perform air assassinations.
After explaining how to ready themselves both physically and mentally, Tsuyu leaps off the cliff and lands safely in a pile of hay. Getting out of the hay, she instructs Hanzō to go next, only for him to call the leap crazy. Tsuyu tries to encourage him to follow her steps, but Hanzō remains hesitant, prompting Masayasu to volunteer to perform the leap instead. Tsuyu attempts to dissuade him, claiming that Masayasu is not yet ready and may get himself hurt or worse, but he ignores her and, despite his own misgivings, jumps off the cliff.
As a shocked Hanzō and Tsuyu look on, Masayasu lands in the hay where, to his surprise and relief, he is unharmed. Tsuyu congratulates Masayasu for passing and helps him stand back up. As they begin to walk away, two strangers watch them from afar and confirm the presence of Assassins in Iga. One of the strangers states that they should keep a vigilant watch on them, in order to ascertain the location of the Imperial Regalia.
