Plot synopsis[edit | edit source]

Shimazu Sei awakens inside the Zhawang Corporation's headquarters in Jakarta, confused about her surroundings. Despite struggling to stay on her feet, she makes her way to the room where Nathan and Claire Zhang are supervising Noa Kim as he relives Edward Kenway's memories in the Brahman 3.0. After the siblings bring Sei up to speed with everything that has happened, including the fact that Noa saved her from Abstergo Industries, Nathan brings over a television screen, allowing a DedSec member to speak with the doctor.

The hacker claims that breaking into Abstergo's network is taking longer than they anticipated and that they do not have a moment to lose. Despite her reluctance to work with DedSec, Sei reveals that she is in possession of a backdoor code that should speed up the process. The hacker thanks her and expresses surprise at Sei's decision to betray Abstergo.

Sei claims that, since Noa upheld his end of their deal, she is simply doing the same. Claire then reassures the doctor, telling her that they each have their reasons to help and that it is too late to turn back now, before Sei declares that she and Noa have to see this through, no matter what.

In the past, Edward bids farewell to Rupiya, since the Mekong is too shallow for the Fenghuang to safely navigate, meaning the ship's role in the journey has come to an end. Edward thanks Rupiya for his service, to which the captain expresses hope to see him again soon. He then confesses that, if it were not for Edward, he would have stayed a common seafarer, and that the Assassin has helped him see that there is more to life than aimless scourging and pillaging.

As Rupiya thanks Edward for turning him into a true sailor, he begins to cry and hugs the Assassin and Shimazu Saito, claiming that he will sail to the ends of Earth and back for the opportunity of another voyage with them. Edward tells Rupiya that the opportunity may soon come, as he will need someone to sail him back to England. He then expresses his surprise that Saito let Rupiya hug her, only for the samurai to brandish her kunai and claim that she was looking for the best spot to put a hole in him. Edward responds that it was nonetheless nice of her to let Rupiya have his moment, before addressing all of his allies.

The Assassin delivers a speech, claiming that the final battle for their freedom will soon commence, and Saito joins in, informing the assembled pirates and mercenaries that the path ahead is laid with dangers unlike any they have faced. Together, Edward and Saito tell the group that, although the odds are against them, they will nonetheless fight to defend their liberty and prove that they are more than just a band of outcasts. As their allies cheer them on, Edward invites Yun Pyeong-Gyu to show everyone what he has been working on.

Yun excitedly showcases the two Celestial Chariots he has built, and the Zhang Wei Union members begin arming themselves for battle. Once the blimps are equipped and ready, they take off, commencing their flight towards Angkor. The Union members take in the sights while Edward praises Yun for another brilliant invention. To this, the engineer claims that he has finally fulfilled his dream of granting humanity the gift of flight, as the memory comes to an end.

Back in the present, DedSec informs Sei that, thanks to her backdoor code, they have breached Abstergo's network and uncovered something they might all wish to see. The hackers then play video footage of Abstergo organizing an expedition to Angkor, revealing that the Templars have found the Forgotten Temple and are preparing to access it as they speak.
