Summary[edit | edit source]
- Mikawa, 1562
Launching an attack on Kaminogō Castle, Matsudaira Takechiyo orders his men to attack and advance towards the castle. Meanwhile, Jesuit priest and Templar Paulino Massa continues to hold Sena and her children at gunpoint while demanding Hattori Hanzō to reveal the location of the Imperial Regalia. Impatient, Massa counts to five until Sena tells them to stop while holding a tantō to her neck. Sena offers her life to be held as ransom in exchange for her kids. Massa agrees and holds a new offer to the shinobi, which is to save Sena and reveal the Regalia or take her kids and abandon her.
Realizing the choices before him, Hanzō envisions the benefits of his choices: favor from Takechiyo and his father or loyalty to both Masayasu and Tsuyu. Using a smoke bomb, he takes Nobuyasu and Kamehime away while Massa was left unsurprised. Despite Nobuyasu's protests, Hanzō continues to lead them out from the burning castle. However, Nobuyasu reminds him of his position and implores him to save his mother for the sake of his clan. Left perplexed and confused, he soon sees himself as a young boy, who asks if he would abandon Tsuyu or Masayasu.
Hanzō soon sees his young self offer flowers, which he recalls from a past memory with his mom, whom all he ever sought from was love. Snapping back into reality, Nobuyasu yells out about the burning platforms around them. With this, Hanzō continues with his mission. Meanwhile, Massa brought Sena to a nearby watchtower and tells her to reassure herself. He begins to tell her that he meant to confuse her kids and the shinobi. He explains that the Imagawa clan and her clan could have joined powers but with her, his plans could work. He states that neither money nor war is needed but love, and with love, he can convince Matsudaira to join his efforts in exchange for her life. However, much to Sena's surprise, she looks above to see an intense Hanzō.
