Assassin's Creed: Awakening is a manga that loosely adapts the 2013 video game Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. It stars Edward Kenway in the 18th century and Yanao Seijin in the present as he relives Edward's memories under the eye of Abstergo Industries.
The manga, written by Takashi Yano and illustrated by Kenji Oiwa, was first serialized in the magazine Jump X.[1] It was announced on Anime News Network on 9 July, 2013,[2] after which the first chapter was released on 10 August. The final twelfth chapter was released in Japan on 10 July, 2014.[3]
A French language version was announced on 16 April, 2014, with Volume 1 releasing 12 June in France under the title Assassin's Creed: Awakening.[4] and Volume 2 releasing in France on 23 October.[5]
An English language version was announced on 23 July, 2016 at San Diego Comic-Con and was published by Titan Comics.[6] The first chapter was released on 9 November while the first volume was released on 19 July, 2017.[7] Volume 2 was released in English on later that year on 20 September.[8] The two English volumes of the books were later included in the Assassin's Creed: The Rebel Collection.[9]

Several of the events in Assassin's Creed: Awakening differ greatly from the one in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, despite it being an adaptation of the game. Duncan Walpole's face was clean-shaven and he died due to exhaustion and the blast from the ship, unlike in the game, where he was shown with a beard and died by Edward's blade. Adéwalé does appear in the comic, but does not look similar to his appearance in the game. Throughout the comic, Edward Kenway receives flashes of Eagle Vision that allow him to see through things and anticipate movements.
