Plot synopsis[edit | edit source]
As Abstergo agents secure the perimeter following the battle at the mall, Shimazu Sei is relieved to see that Yuki is still alive despite her arm injury. Sigma Team prepares to escort Noa Kim back to the Exitus, though not before Sei angrily confronts him over throwing her from a balcony. Hearing this, Yuki requests permission to use "lethal force", but Sei claims it will not be necessary as they need Noa alive for the Animus. A Sigma Team operative steps in and states that they will commence the test subject's transportation, but Sei orders the team to let Noa go and insists that she will personally escort him. The operatives comply, and Sei reluctantly thanks Noa for saving her.
Meanwhile, having successfully evaded Abstergo, Nathan Zhang calls Claire, who reprimands him for his recklessness and for almost running into Sigma Team. She also questions his decision to let Noa stay with Abstergo, but Nathan assures her that Noa will help them acquire the artifact sought by the Templars when the time is right. Claire states that she hopes this will be the case, as keeping the artifact out of Abstergo's hands is the only way to ensure no one will have to suffer like Nathan has. To this, Nathan wonders if the Assassins think the same before claiming that they are no brothers of his and that he only follows the Zhang Wei Union's creed to never abandon family.
Aboard the Exitus, Noa prepares to return to the Animus despite Sei's warnings that it might be dangerous to go back in so soon due the Bleeding Effect. After Noa states that he understands the risks better than anyone, Sei complies and loads up the next sequence of Edward Kenway's memories based on information from Rupiya's sea log that Noa has acquired.
Before they begin, Noa decides to ask Sei if what Nathan has said about his father is true. Sei states that the Templars did indeed carry out a large-scale purge against the Assassins, but that it is impossible to determine whether Noa's father was among the casualties or even a member of the Brotherhood. Satisfied with the answer, Noa nonchalantly claims that he does not care what happened to his father, as he still abandoned him regardless of the reason, and enters the Animus to continue tracking Edward's memories.
In the past, Edward calmly sings a sea shanty as the Fenghuang comes under attack by Admiral Zheng's fleet near the Philippines. When John Young asks him why he is unconcerned about the attack, Edward claims that he expected to encounter danger during the voyage and orders the crew to return fire. As Shimazu Saito spots more enemy ships attempting to flank them, Yun Pyeong-Gyu tells Edward that he has a solution and reveals his latest invention: fire barrels which explode on impact. The barrels cause considerable damage to Zheng's fleet, forcing the admiral to sail around them, which creates an opportunity for the Fenghuang to deal with the remaining ships.
