The Portuguese Templar Paulino Massa reads off a list of their fallen shinobi they hired while learning that Kuroiwa Gonjou-rou survived from his wound and gave vital information about the Imperial Regalia. Speaking to Imagawa Ujizane, he tells them that when he has the Imperial Regalia, he will control all of Japan. With the treasure, they will defeat both the Oda clan and their ally Matsudaira Takechiyo. He tells Ujizane to leave it his hands and promises not to fail upon his cross.
At Hattori Mansion, Hattori Hanzō arrives back home and meets with his father Hattori Yasunaga. Yasunaga stops the formality and asks Hanzō if he completed his training. Hanzō explains that there was an attack in Iga and he came here on Momochi Sandayu's orders. Learning this, Yasunaga tells Hanzō to come back, stop being a shinobi, and become a samurai for the family. Hanzō rebuffs the claim and says he has a reason to continue his training, recalling his promise to Tsuyu. He admits that he has two friends there, which led Yasunaga to understand and call his son weak. Leaving his father alone, Hanzō sees a woman and then begins to see her in all black.
Hanzō begins to recall a moment in his childhood where he fell after climbing a tree. Screaming, his mom comes to check on him and sees Hanzō bleeding. Telling Hanzō to hush down, Hanzō begs for her help. His mom tells him to be more quiet but she is soon slapped across by Yasunaga, who reprimands her for not watching his heir closely. While telling her that she does not deserve to exist, the young boy apologizes, saying that it is his fault. Angry, his father leaves while Hanzō apologizes to his mother. When his mom looks up, he sees a woman encased in black. At that moment, Hanzō agrees with his father that his mother was weak.
Walking into town, Hanzō begins his search for any clues about the Templars. He then comes across a man having chased down a thief. Believing them to be drunks, he starts to leave. However, the man standing Hanzō out over his weird weapon on his wrist. The man then calls out him out as the son of Hattori and welcomes his return.
