Summary
- Iga, 1560
Fujibayashi Masayasu jumps from the shadows and strikes the rōnin with a kunai to the neck. With his opponent down, Masayasu realizes that he killed the intruder. While giving the man his last rites, the rōnin, still alive, punches him and stands up. Although impressed by his skill, the rōnin states that Masayasu missed the intended spot and that he will never be able to kill him. Masayasu then throws dirt in the rōnin's face and tries to take hold of his ōdachi but is kicked away from it. Nearly beaten, Masayasu asks his attacker why he works for the Templars to steal the Imperial Regalia from the Assassins.
The rōnin explains that he is not interested in the war between the two orders and that he and his cohorts were simply contracted to find the Assassins in Iga, acquire the Imperial Regalia, and deliver it to his employer; everything else is of no consequence to him. Walking towards Masayasu, he removes the kunai from his neck and nearly strikes Masayasu. Just then, however, Momochi Sandayu arrives and slices the rōnin's arm off with his katana.
Masayasu stands up while Sandayu congratulates him for discovering more information from the enemy but states that the rōnin is not directly linked to the Templars. Preparing to tie up loose ends, Sandayu almost strikes down the rōnin but stops after hearing a noise. He advises Masayasu to never linger on striking down his enemy and to control his emotions.
Hearing more blades among the bamboo, Sandayu tells the shinobi surrounding him and Masayasu that they are cowards and have no honor while their assailants start to move in closer. As the shinobi confront Sandayu and Masayasu, the injured rōnin seizes the opportunity to flee into the forest. One of the shinobi orders the rest to attack and kill their enemies. However, Sandayu hears a slight noise and tells his attackers that they are predictable. Out of the shadows, Tsuyu emerges and instantly kills five of the shinobi with her Hidden Blade while four more surround her.
Without a sweat, Tsuyu manages to cut them down, leaving only one survivor. The lone shinobi, terrified, asks who she is, to which Tsuyu responds that she is an Assassin who "serves the light". After killing the last shinobi, Tsuyu turns to Sandayu and Masayasu and explains how she had caught sight of the attackers beforehand and followed them there. She also reveals that she received a message from her mentor Alvaro Catarribera, urging her to leave Iga immediately and help him with his mission.
