Summary[edit | edit source]
- Iga, 1561
Fujibayashi Masayasu leaves his room and his shinobi robes behind as he looks upon the rainy night and ponders his choice to train under Momochi Sandayu. Tsuyu suddenly appears from the rooftops and questions what he is doing. As Masayasu is surprised to see Tsuyu back in Iga, she explains that her mentor Alvaro Catarribera sent her back to train more shinobi in the Assassins' ways. She also reveals that Hattori Hanzō has traveled to Mikawa under her mentor's orders and that she came to check on Masayasu due to Hanzō's concerns.
As she looks at him, she asks why he does not have his robes on, but Masayasu remains steady on his departure. Upset, Tsuyu begins to tell him that his eyes are special. Angry, Masayasu slams his fist against the post and tells her that she knows nothing about him and how he is meant to protect Iga as a Fujibayashi.
Tsuyu questions who puts these principles in his head before unleashing her Hidden Blade in front of him. She explains that Japan has always been under one's control and how he chose to walk this path and follow another principle. Sheathing her blade, Tsuyu recounts that even her family tried to control her, but now she is free to choose her own path. She then claims that they are different in this regard, as Masayasu is trying to follow the principles bestowed upon him by another. Before leaving, she tells him to think about the path he will choose next.
In the kitchen, Masayasu sees that he left his rice to cool and begins to make more for himself and the other shinobi in the morning. While making rice, he begins to reminisce about a moment he had with his father, who taught him his code of conduct and personal beliefs while he helped out his community. Feeling thankful, Masayasu then questions if he truly found his own code or if he just had one imposed onto him. With Tsuyu's words still ringing in his head, he screams and takes a bite out of the entire pot of rice. Although he broke one of his father's rules, he finally feels free and happy.
The next morning, Masayasu finds Tsuyu, who sees that he is wearing his robes again, and tells her that he is ready to train with her again. Happy, she agrees to continue his training.
