A man standing over a thief calls out Hattori Hanzō, who pulls out a fan and rejects the notion of him being a Hattori. Hanzō begins to leave and lies about being a merchant needing to tend to his shop. However, the man states that he knows he is lying and it is too bad for him that he likes to chase. Within moments, the man chases Hanzō across the rooftops as the man likes to duel since Hanzō shows that he knows how to escape atop the rooftops. Hanzō demands to know his name but the man stays that will make things boring. When the man engages with his katana, Hanzō fights with a kunai. While teasing Hanzō as they fight, the man states that he was more stronger and experienced than Hanzō.
However, the man mentions that he does not have friends due to his position, which Hanzō notes. In an opportunity, Hanzō finds the man off-balance and kicks him down. When Hanzō questions on who he serves, the man reveals that he follows the orders of Matsudaira Takechiyo and reveals himself as Watanabe Moritsuna. Hanzō kneels immediately and begs for forgiveness for his gross actions, but Moritsuna also apologizes for his actions too. He admits that he was initially headed to his father but his luck changed when he saw Hanzō. He then asks Hanzō for his help and strength for his daimyō's mission.
Meanwhile, Fujibayashi Masayasu holds the ground's dog while Konan practices with another student, Hachi-rou. Momochi Sandayu appears behind Masayasu and asks if he feels alone since Hanzō left for Tsuyu. Masayasu explains that he knows what path he took but begins to wonder if he is up for the responsibilities of being a shinobi. He then remembers the moment when to strike for the final blow against an enemy but failed to follow through with it. Sandayu then points to the Hachi-rou, who was actually one of the samurai that attacked Masayasu's village. He explains that the villagers saved him as they did not want him down the path of violence. Sandayu also remarks that Masayasu has his eyes that are able to attract people and how Masayasu knew it when he was the local samurai of his village.
Sandayu explains that he has trained many students, who either train for their own ambitions or for the peace of their land. While he details that he is now an old man, he says that he hopes for all students to be like Masayasu, whom he believes can carry on his beliefs and lead the shinobis of Iga. However, he states that he sees Masayasu's conflict of who he is. Before leaving, he tells Masayasu has a choice of continuing his training or leaving. After some time, he folds his attire and believes that he is unlikely to become a shinobi like Hanzō before leaving his room.
