Plot synopsis[edit | edit source]
Doctor Shimazu Sei and her medical team attempt to aid Noa Kim after he experienced an Animus malfunction while reliving a memory that featured a Piece of Eden. Meanwhile, Noa's consciousness begins to relive Edward Kenway's earlier life with his first wife Caroline Scott-Kenway. Noa learns that Edward regrets how his desire to be a privateer cost him more than he wished when Noa sees Edward at Caroline's grave. Noa soon finds himself in a white room surrounded by past versions of Edward. The Assassin reminds him to keep his wits or else he may lose himself within the machine. Fortunately, Noa regains consciousness and finds Sei looking over him.
Sei explains that Noa experienced a data reflux and that the consequences are more extreme, as they may lead to a comatose state or even death. Despite Sei's warnings, Noa insists that he must see this through, no matter the consequences. However, the doctor explains that Noa is extremely valuable to Abstergo, as he is the first Animus test subject since Subject 17 to achieve such high synchronization rates. Noa understands Sei's caution but nevertheless returns to the Animus.
Edward and Shimazu Saito run back to the Fenghuang, where John Young, Xialun Qing, and Yun Pyeong-Gyu await. Once aboard, John readies the ship to leave while Jan van Aert and his crew start to depart as well. However, a small fleet of Spanish ships pursues them, prompting Jan to lure them away to give Edward and his crew time to escape. Before they part ways, Jan tells the Assassin to reconvene at an island kingdom south of the Philippines called the Sultanate of Sulu.
After escaping from the Spanish fleet, Edward tells John about the events in Manila, where a monk wore a crescent amulet and used it to start a riot. He then explains how a native faction came, killed the monk, and took the amulet before he and Saito could recover it. When John asks what their plan is, Edward says that their destination remains unchanged, and the crew sets sail towards Cebu. Elsewhere, Rajah showcases the amulet to his people and declares that he will use it to take back their homeland.
