Plot Synopsis
Dr. Shimazu Sei and her doctors attempt to aid her patient Noa Kim, who experiences an Animus malfunction after reliving a memory with a Piece of Eden. Meanwhile, Noa's consciousness begins to relive Edward Kenway's early moments with his first wife Caroline Scott-Kenway. Noa soon finds Edward remorseful over his desire of being a privateer costing him more than he wished when he sees Edward at Caroline's grave. Noa soon finds himself in a white room surrounded by past versions of Edward. Edward reminds him to keep his wits or else he may lose himself within the machine. Fortunately, Noa regains consciousness and finds Dr. Sei over him.
Dr. Sei explains that he experiences a data reflux and the consequences are more extreme that may lead to a comatose state or even death. Despite Dr. Sei's warnings, Noa states that he is compelled to see this through, no matter the consequences. However, Dr. Sei explains that he is extremely valuable due to his high sync rate and how they have not had anyone since Subject 17 and his accomplice. Nevertheless, Noa understand the doctor's caution but still goes back into Animus.
Edward and Shimazu Saito run back to the Fenghuang, where John Young, Xialun Qing, and Yun Pyeong-Gyu await them. Once aboard, John readies the boat to leave while Dutch merchant Jan van Aert starts to depart as well. However, they are chased by a small fleet of Spanish ships, only to have van Aert offer his help for Kenway's escape. Before they part, van Aert states to reconvene at an island kingdom south of the Philippines called the Sultanate of Sulu before leading the Spanish ships away. After escaping, Edward details the events in Manila, where the Crescent amulet was worn by a monk who started the riots with it. However, he reveals that a native faction came, killed the monk, and attained the amulet before he and Saito could recover it. However, Edward states their destination remains on Cebu. Elsewhere, Rajah showcases the amulet to his people and promises to take back his homeland.
