Plot synopsis
Yun Pyeong-Gyu becomes angry upon learning of Edward Kenway's decision to recruit Shimazu Saito into the Zhang Wei Union. Zhang explains that Yun's animosity towards Saito rouses from the Imjin War fought between Joseon and Japan over a century prior, in which many Koreans were killed. Yun further explains that, although he does not dislike all Japanese people, he can not trust Saito due to her nature as a samurai, warning Edward that she will inevitably betray them. At that moment, Saito arrives and, rather than be upset by Yun's comments, appreciates being recognized as Japanese for the first time in her life. However, Yun lashes out at her and storms off, claiming he will never work alongside Saito.
Meanwhile, Lee Huiyin, now the most powerful merchant in Macau following Sun's death, holds a meeting with the Chinese Assassins, who have come to seek her aid. Xiao Han explains that if they were to join forces, they could find Angkor's treasure much quicker, but Lee is reluctant to trust another Assassin after how her partnership with Edward ended. Xiao Han claims that Edward is different from them and reveals that he is aware of Lee's true name and past. To this, Jeong wishes to shoot Xiao Han, but Lee stops them and listens to Xiao Han as he explains his goal to overthrow the Qing dynasty, under which many Han Chinese people, including Lee, have suffered persecution. In the end, despite deeming Xiao Han's mission insane, Lee agrees to the alliance.
Back at the Zhang Wei Union's headquarters, Edward explains to John Young and Zhang how the Chinese Assassins have become blinded by their desire to overthrow the Qing and are not thinking about the consequences of such an act, which will result in countless deaths. Meanwhile, Saito finds Yun practicing archery and, although he initially tries to ignore her, the two end up having an archery contest after Saito showcases her own skills with the bow. The contest is witnessed by the entire Zhang Wei Union, including Rupiya, who wastes no time in turning it into an opportunity for profit by having people bet on it. After Saito emerges victorious, Yun recognizes her skills and drops all animosity towards her, much to Edward's satisfaction.
Later, as the members of the Zhang Wei Union contemplate how they will find Angkor without Hendrik's sea log, Saito reveals that she has memorized the log's contents. After they are written down, Yun uses the cipher recovered by Edward to decode them and finds a message telling them that they should follow in the footsteps of Ferdinand Magellan.
