Plot synopsis
As Jeong's fleet reaches Cebu, she reassures Xiao Han, Xue Yan, and Liu Qing that she will wait for their signal to commence her attack. With that, the Chinese Assassins ready their gliders and prepare to head to the city and retrieve the crescent amulet.
Meanwhile, Edward Kenway is overwhelmed by the amulet's powers as he struggles to fend off Rajah's attacks. The illusions of Filipino warriors eventually surround and pin down the Assassin, and his fate appears to be sealed as Rajah approaches him to deliver the final blow. At the last moment, Edward extends his Hidden Blade and activates its crossbow mechanism, launching the blade at Rajah, severing the amulet's string and causing the artifact to fall to the ground. With Rajah separated from the amulet, the illusions abruptly vanish and the Visayan chief falls to his knees.
Elsewhere, Shimazu Saito searches in vain for Hendrik's sea log until she spots a group of civilians fleeing with the journal. Confronting them, Saito demands that they surrender the log in exchange for their lives, to which the civilians immediately hand over the journal and run away, having no desire to risk their lives for "some worthless paper". With the log in-hand, Saito is faced with a dilemma of whether she should abandon or return to Edward.
When Edward pick ups the amulet, the artifact shows him Rajah's memories, from losing his home and family as a child to the years he spent enslaved. Despite expressing sympathy for the chief, Edward does not feel that his tragic past justifies his actions, prompting Rajah to call the Assassin "self-righteous to the very last". Suddenly, a rope dart encircles Rajah's neck and the chief struggles to resist its pull, claiming that all his sacrifices for his people to be free and safe will not be in vain. In the end, however, his efforts are futile and the rope dart snaps Rajah's neck, just as Xiao Han reveals himself and demands that Edward hand over the amulet.
