Plot synopsis

As Edward Kenway orders everyone to evacaute the sinking pirate ship, one crew member informs him of a number of slaves being held in the hull. Edward frees the slaves, including a Korean man named Yun Pyeong-Gyu, and they escape from the ship before the powder kegs detonate. Back on their own ship, Edward and John Young lament the loss of the pirate vessel, before Yun approaches them to thank Edward for saving his life. After Yun reveals that he is a scholar and an aide to a Joseon envoy to the Qing Empire, John considers recruiting him into the Zhang Wei Union.

Returning to the Dutch East India Company ship they defended from the pirates, Edward offers to escort it back to Macau, only to be informed that its wheel was destroyed during the attack. Yun volunteers to repair it, revealing that he served in the Office of Military Armaments, impressing both Edward and John with his skills. Once Yun has repaired the wheel, Edward sails the ship to the Macau harbor.

After disembarking, Edward tells the liberated slaves to speak with Zhang should they wish to join the Zhang Wei Union. Afterwards, he makes Yun a proposition to work for his organization as an engineer while they look for a way to return him to his homeland. Yun accepts the offer and, to celebrate, John suggests they all go drinking. However, Edward is then approached by Jan van Aert, who claims that he is in the Assassin's debt for bringing his ship back safely and wishes to talk in private. Elsewhere, Madam Lee is visited by a Shimazu clan ninja with a proposition.
