Plot synopsis[edit | edit source]
At Tessa's lodgings in Singapore, Edward Kenway is taken to rest and asks his wife what she is doing so far from London. Tessa explains that, shortly after Edward's departure, three Assassins sent by Edward's friend Adéwalé came to warn her about a conspiracy to have him killed. The Assassins asked her to recommend a reliable messenger to send word of the plot to Edward, but Tessa, feeling she could not trust a stranger with her husband's safety, decided to deliver the message herself. Unbeknownst to Tessa at the time, however, Jennifer had eavesdropped on the conversation and decided to follow her by stowing away on her ship.
As Tessa remarks that Jennifer is taking after her father more with each passing day, Edward assures her that Shimazu Saito will bring Jennifer back unharmed. Tessa says that she is more concerned for Edward's well-being and demands to know everything that has happened to her husband since they last saw each other.
Elsewhere, Saito takes Jennifer to have lunch together, but to her annoyance, the young girl pays more attention to her than the food. Jennifer expresses her admiration for Saito's skills, but the samurai tells her that her feats are nothing to be proud of and that she has taken her share of lives, both guilty and innocent. As Saito remarks that she is no hero, unlike Edward, Jennifer stops her and insists that Saito saving her life proves otherwise. She then compares the samurai to a "knight in shining armor" from the fairy tales she has read, causing Saito to smile to herself.
Later, Saito brings Jennifer back to her parents, and Tessa thanks the samurai for saving her step-daughter. She then takes Jennifer to see her father, though not before the girl happily waves Saito goodbye, a gesture the latter returns. Upon being reunited with Edward, Jennifer embraces her father and tells him about how Saito saved her. While holding Jennifer, Edward recalls the visions of the future he has seen and realizes how little time he has left to spend with his family until his inevitable death.
Seeing that Edward is not feeling well, Tessa asks Jennifer to let him rest. After Jennifer departs, Edward reprimands himself for abandoning his family in London and leading his new companions on a pointless quest that has only brought them misery. Tessa quickly stops his depressive episode, reminding her husband that this is not the first time he has faced challenges that made him question himself. She then states that Edward's actions are not pointless, as they have made a difference for all his loved ones, and that she knows her husband is not someone to be easily defeated by his failures.
As Edward regains his resolve, Tessa begins to get intimate with him, telling her husband that she has spent too many "lonely nights" since his departure. Edward is unsure if his body is up for the "challenge", but Tessa continues to seduce him and they end up spending the night together. Meanwhile, the remaining Zhang Wei Union members each attend to their own business: Saito spends time with Jennifer, Yun Pyeong-Gyu continues to work in his lab, Rupiya drinks alone on the Fenghuang's deck, and John Young leaves the pub he has spent the entire day in, drinking and mourning Xialun Qing's death.

Edward's vision of his death is a recreation of an illustration from the 2012 community site Assassin's Creed: Initiates, specifically its database entry for Haytham Kenway which depicts the mercenary Tom Smith standing over Edward's body.
