Plot synopsis[edit | edit source]
Determined to help the villagers who have been placed under the crescent amulet's control, Edward Kenway devises a plan to capture the brainwashed warriors roaming Monkey Island's jungles. Using himself as bait, Edward is able to lure the warriors into a trap, where they are caught in a large net by John Young and other Zhang Wei Union members. Edward then uses his blowpipe to put all the warriors to sleep, allowing them to be safely transported to the village.
As the village chief thanks Edward for bringing back the missing men, the Assassin vows to rescue the remaining villagers who have been forcefully recruited into Rajah's resistance group. To this, the chief remarks that, while the resistance's intentions may have been noble once, they are now committing just as many atrocities as the outsiders occupying their lands.
Intrigued by the chief's earlier comments about Japanese settlers in the Philippines, Edward questions him about it. The chief explains how, many years ago, a number of Japanese foreigners came into contact with the natives and began trading with them. In time, many of these foreigners chose to remain and established a settlement, living among the natives. However, differences between the two groups eventually led to conflict and bloodshed, prompting the Japanese to isolate themselves. This changed recently, when many Japanese warriors left their settlement and began sacking neighboring islands in search of an artifact.
Elsewhere, Rajah and his men manage to acquire a fleet after killing a group of Japanese warriors. Boarding the ships, the native warriors depart Monkey Island and sail to Cebu, leaving several men behind to guard their fort. Using the brainwashed warriors they captured earlier as a distraction, the Union members and the villagers storm the fort and rescue the prisoners held there. John then informs Edward that he has planted several Joseon bombs around the fort to destroy it, prompting the Assassin to order everyone to jump into the water before the explosives detonate.
