Plot synopsis[edit | edit source]
As Shimazu Saito falls under the crescent amulet's influence and hallucinates her deceased friends, Edward Kenway tries to snap her out of her trance by telling her that what she is seeing is not real. However, while doing so, he accidentally glances at the amulet, causing him to be subjected to the same hallucination. The monk wielding the artifact proceeds to cast several illusions of himself, as well as one of a large oni, which attacks the pair.
After again reminding Saito that what they are experiencing is not real, Edward attempts to retrieve the amulet from the monk and tells Saito to cover his back. Thanks to the Assassin's encouragement, Saito is able to overcome her inner demons and defeat the oni, but the illusion then turns into one of her friends. As Saito can not bring herself to attack them, she is struck by the oni and collapses. This distracts Edward, causing him to also be hit and seemingly losing his right arm.
In the present, Noa Kim has an intense reaction to Edward's feeling of losing his arm, causing a synchronization error in the Animus. Shimazu Sei orders her team to end the session, but Noa insists that they continue and returns to the machine.
As the monk laughs at his apparent victory, he is surprised to see Edward awaken from his trance after realizing that the loss of his arm was another hallucination. Now immune to all illusions cast by the amulet, the Assassin declares that he is tired of the monk's "petty tricks" and approaches him to recover the artifact.
